Ships versus Aircraft
Carbon emissions from the shipping industry are reported to be about twice that of previous estimations, according to the FT, bringing it to 1.2bn tonnes per year. The aviation industry emits only about half of that.
“The report by DK Group, which is developing technology to make ships more efficient, found shipping’s emissions were much higher than previously thought. The previous widely accepted estimate was 600m-800m tonnes a year.
The company reached the bigger estimate by including new vessels and by studying 7,749 vessels more than 175 metres long.”

A remarkably well kept secret it seems.
Why is it that so many reports have some arbitrary filter on the data?
