Philips increase eco-friendliness
Philips, the world’s largest producer of lighting products, and electronics company are stepping up their production and sales of eco-friendly products with a €1 bn investment until 2012, according to an article in the International Herald Tribune. They are also planning to increase the energy efficiency of their operations by 25% in the same period, surpassing legislative expectations. The CEO, Gerard Kleisterlee admits the move is to gain a competitive edge - it is certainly a necessity for major companies to produce more products with energy consumption in mind.
“The Philips strategy is part of a global trend, as climate change takes higher priority in corporate planning. A report issued Monday in New York by the Carbon Disclosure Project said global leaders in retailing and manufacturing were paying more attention to greenhouse gas emissions linked to products they made and sold.
