Kyoto Protocol “Not Enough”
According to Geir Braathen, a senior scientist at the World Meteorological Organisation,
“There is no sign that N2O (nitrous oxide) and CO2 are starting to level off”
and levels are expected to continue rising unless emission levels are extremely reduced.
The usual expected outcomes are predicted - melting polar ice caps, extreme weather - all through the increase in global temperatures.
The blame it seems, lies with industry - especially that of the US and Australia, which haven’t ratified the protocol, and that of China which has ratified, but is largely unaffected by it since they are still a developing nation.
Unfortunately,
“To really make CO2 level off we will need more drastic measures than are in the Kyoto Protocol today,”
Geir Braathen explained.
