Australia’s new Prime Minister has appointed rock-singer-turned-parliamentarian, Peter Garrett, as Minister for the Environment, supported by Senator Penny Wong, as Minister for Climate Change. Senator Wong will lead Australia’s team negotiating ratification to the Kyoto Protocol and negotiating its successor. Senator Wong will also be responsible for the new Government’s ambition of achieving a target of 20 percent of energy from renewable energy by 2020.
