Channel 4’s green reality TV
Dumped - a new reality documentary series was aired, featuring 11 members of the public with different views on the environment whom were placed on one of Britain’s biggest landfills for three weeks. Their mission: to live off the garbage that we all throw out everyday. They have to eat off, wear and build shelter from the scraps that people discarded without recycling, for a grand prize of £20,000 shared among those who stick with it to the end. Food is restricted to £424 worth a week - the amount of food that each of us throw out each year.
If you are not the Big Brother type, you may find some of the “inevitable” arguments annoying, however it is interesting to see their different responses to the garbage around them. One of them said he had never heard of a dump site and admitted he had never thought of where his rubbish ends up.
You can see videos of it, interviews with the contestants, read the diaries, TV listings for the program etc. on the Channel 4 website here.
The Guardian also has an article on it here.
It’s the most interesting reality TV program I’ve seen or heard of!
