Carbon in North America
Evidence of the US warming to the idea of trading carbon credits is everywhere. As advertised in a Michigan local paper, a carbon credit ‘explanation’ session will be presented to local farmers next week by a Farmers Union programme that provides financial incentive to farmers who adopt carbon cutting methods.
A recent poll however, suggests americans are not happy to turn to carbon trade and would prefer to support federal regulations instead.
“Respondents favored federal regulation even if it ended up costing them more - in higher electricity bills - than they would end up having to pay under a carbon tax or cap-and-trade proposal.”
Congress is still persuing cap-and-trade.
In Canada a report essentially reccomending carbon tax & trading has been submitted to Canada’s Energy Efficiency office with positive effects.
“The Conservative government has promised some form of an emission-trading system and has indicated the cost of permits will start at $15 a tonne.”
