Exxon Mobil wakes up?

US energy company, Exxon Mobil, long sceptical on global warming, may be changing its opinion, according to this news report.   The company is participating in an industry-wide study of greenhouse gas emissions regulations. The London newspaper, The Observer, reported today that the British officials are predicting a U-turn in US climate change policy very shortly:

2006 temperatures

It was not only Australia where last year saw high temperatures.   The US Department of Commerce’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) has declared 2006 the hottest year in the USA since record keeping began.

Helium Report, a website which undertakes evaluation of luxury goods and services, has calculated the cost of buying carbon emission offsets for flights in your private jet:

EC to be tougher on cars?

The EC’s Commissioner for the Environment is seeking to force motor vehicle manufacturers to cut carbon emissions by a quarter, according to a report in the FT.  However, these proposals for more stringent requirements have not yet been accepted as official EC policy.
